Dear GHoST 61…

29 July 2010

Thank you GHoST61 for hacking the index.html of all of my websites. I’m actually not mad at you for this. Quite the opposite really. You’ve done a very simple hack that was, for the most part, non-destructive. In fact, you’ve taught me 2 very valuable lessons. The first is that I should always backup the content of my server to my harddrive. Fortunately, of all the sites I have, only 2 needed to have the homepage reloaded. The second lesson is that I need to more tightly secure my server. If it was that easy for you to hack in, who knows what else could have been done by someone with more malicious intent than your own.

So, you’ve been hit by GHoST61, what do you do now? All that’s happened is that your index.html file has been changed. If you didn’t have an index.html file but rather an index.htm, index.php, etc, then all you have to do is delete the 24byte index.html file and your other index file will take back over and you’re fine. If you did have an index.html file and he overwrote yours, then you will have to re-upload (hope you keep a backup on your computer) your index.html to your server.

The next thing you have to do is secure your server. Below are some sites where people have mentioned how they fixed their stuff:

Couch Warranty

11 November 2008

Ok so back in Feb ’07 when our apartment building caught fire and soot got on everything..  One of the things that was most affected by it was our couch.  It’s an oversized micro fiber suede couch.  Well soot got all over it and it got really messy.  Of course our Stainsafe warranty didn’t cover the damages because it was an ‘incidental’ damage.  In otherwords since the fire was someone else’s fault and we just got some soot on it from their fire, it’s not covered.  BUT if we dropped a match on it and it got burnt then it would be covered…  Right.  So we were upset because we didn’t even have it a year yet and it was a really nice couch.

Well, fast forward to last week.  One of our lovely cats for some unknown reason, decided to pee on the couch.  Great, thanks jerk.  We had just covered it with a blanket and decided to use it that way.  So fast forward to today.  The first method of getting the pee stain and smell out didn’t work so well.  So we rented a Rug Doctor from the grocery store.  In the process of washing off the pee smell, all the soot came out!!  I mean we’re talking 21 month old soot that had just been in there and causing problems came out!!

The cushions you lean your back on are harder to do the wet vaccum thing to so we decided to just take them off and wash them in the washer and sure enough they look great!  So we’re gonna do the same to the seat cushions too!  It took us this long to do something that simple because we didn’t want to void our warranty and we thought we’d mess up the fabric or something.  How amazing that it was so simple and we waited so long to do it…  But I tell ya, God is so good to us.  He’s just been sending little things to us left and right to help us out and lift our spirits!  This is such a blessing!

Must Register to Comment

12 October 2008

Due to an overwhelming amount of spam comments that I get everyday, I decided it wasn’t worth it anymore to leave open commenting available.  You now must have an account and be signed in to make a comment.  Sorry for the hassle but it’s gotten ridiculous.

Hey Neatorama Readers!

20 July 2008

Well, when I sent the story I saw on the news to Alex, I did not imagine he would link to my website.  Feel free to look around.  It’s just a personal blog site, nothing fancy.
Thanks for dropping by though!

Centipede

1 July 2008

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.dickensdigital.com/centipede/ASF%20Final.swf" height="600" width="500" /]

So I made this in my Action Script for Flash class back in school.  It’s not complete, but I needed to have something that functioned; had a beginning, middle and end.  I hope to make it as close to the original as possible one of these days.  But there you go for now.

Keep me posted!

15 June 2008

For a long time there, I really slacked off on my website.  I just didn’t make the time to do it.  In an effort to keep myself from drifting away again, I’ve set Michelle up with her own website, and I created a Twitter account!  Twitter allows you to make very short, 140 character, posts at a time.  The cool thing is that you can update it via TEXT MESSAGE!  So if I’m not at home I can just send out a text and it’ll update my twitter account!

Anyways, it’s my goal to use this much more and to add a lot of different content to it.  I’ll post devotionals that I do, strange things that I’ve encountered, things that happen in my personal life, the world, etc.  I changed up the theme recently to be a little more visually attracting.  I might start working on my own theme thats more custom to me, chris ayres.  But for now I really like the strange green image above.  It’s very appealing.

Peace out, I’m going to Church!

Time for an Update

11 June 2008

I think that I’m ready for an update to the look of my website.  Keep an eye open for some changes!

It’s my Birthday!

11 June 2008

Or it was rather, yesterday.  I turned 23.  I did something that I’ve never done before for my birthday.  I didn’t tell anyone about it, I didn’t throw myself a big party, I didn’t talk about it weeks before hand…  I pretty much ignored it and down played it.  I even spent about 7 hours with the same person and didn’t once mention it, despite the phone calls to wish me a happy birthday.

Anyways, it was a great day.  Michelle and I had a good time together, had some dinner at Carrabbas, and a  good relaxing evening.

Feels good to be 23.  It’s my last year in the young 20′s.  Thanks to everyone who called and texted me.  It’s good to be loved!

Great Job Huckabee!

5 March 2008

I know that not all of you are Republicans, but thats OK, God still loves you :)   I just want to take a minute to congratulate Huckabee on the success that he had so far in the campaign and to thank him for giving me a candidate that I had no question about!  Congrats also to Senator McCain.  Good luck to you sir!

Good News!

15 December 2007

It’s been a while since I’ve really updated my site.  So much has been going on these last few months that my free time I try to spend with Michelle.  Anyways, here are some updates in our life.

My dad was accepted to the Army National Guard this week!  This is great because he’ll be able to go out to the desert as a Chaplain and be able to help our men and women on the battlefield when they are in need!  His education, wisdom and knowledge will be very beneficial and comfort for those struggling with their families being back home and friends being hurt or killed.  The Army will also be honoring his prior 11 years of active duty service which will put him only 9 years away from retirement!  With my mom being 2 months away, that is very good news for my parents.  This will greatly help them financially!

Speaking of my Mom!  She’ll be coming home from Germany on leave for about 9 days or so at the end of January.  By then I will not have seen her for almost 7 months!!  Dad has gone to see her once already,  Jer and Jen over Thanksgiving, Dad is going back again over Christmas and ……. WE might get to go see her in February!!  That will be way cool.  Other than Puerto Rico and Bahamas, I’ve never REALLY go to leave the country.  That would be super exciting!

Michelle is working now at a wonderful place called A Woman’s Place Ministries.  It’s a Crisis Pregnancy Center  in Tampa.  They don’t do abortions or anything like that.  It’s more of an informational/counseling place where women can come and get tested for babies, get a 4D sonagram, and some stuff to help them with the babies.  All for free!  It’s a Christian based organization in which Michelle can help people!  It’s exactly what she wanted for in a job.  Bless her!

Well that’s about all for now.  I’ll try to update again before Christmas, if not… MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
