Astronaut Candidate

30 June 2008

So a couple days ago I got an email from NASA (i signed up for them) talking about the deadline to apply for the Astronaut Candidate Program for the I.S.S.  If selected you go to the training for like 2 years and at the end of that, they choose the people they want to join NASA.  I qualify in just about every way accept for my degree.  I have a Bachelors of Computer Sciences, but they want Physical Science or Biological Science…  I mean theres a lot of computers up there in that space station so they would be smart to hire me.

I’ll post the rejection letter when I get it!

Fake Christians

21 June 2008

Part of a sermon series had this video in it. I thought it captured exactly what I have been thinking and wanting to say for the longest time. It’s only about 2 and 1/2 minutes and well worth the time.

For now I can only provide a link until I can get the flash player to work.

Virus OH NO!

19 June 2008

Looks like I downloaded a virus the other day and it’s ran through my system to where I can’t even log in to Windows before it crashes.  This is on my laptop.  So I take the harddrive out and put it in an external laptop harddrive case and plug it in to my desktop to copy the files over that I need….. and wouldn’t you know, the external drive isn’t compatible with WindowsXP.  Go figure.

Lesson learned, don’t go downloading plugins for videos to play on websites.  You’ll get a virus!

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

15 June 2008

Dad,

Thanks for being a great father to me.  Teaching me how to be a good Godly man and how to survive in this crazy world.  I know a lot of times you would tell me something and I would shrug you off or make it seem like I wasn’t listening, but most of the time I was listening and storing it away.  I’m really proud of you for joining the Army and taking a stand to defend our country.  You may not have a gun in your hand, but you’re bringing the LOVE of Jesus Christ to these hurting men and women on the battlefield and that is something to be proud of!  You’re a great father and I love you very much!

Love,
Chris

Dave,

I’m glad to call you my father-in-law.  The “in-law” status has been portrayed as such a bad thing, but I don’t see why.  I have the greatest in-laws that anyone could ask for.  Thanks for being a wonderful father to Michelle, and allowing me to take her as my wife and to care for and love her like no other.  Thank you for all that you do for us!

Love,
Chris

Keep me posted!

15 June 2008

For a long time there, I really slacked off on my website.  I just didn’t make the time to do it.  In an effort to keep myself from drifting away again, I’ve set Michelle up with her own website, and I created a Twitter account!  Twitter allows you to make very short, 140 character, posts at a time.  The cool thing is that you can update it via TEXT MESSAGE!  So if I’m not at home I can just send out a text and it’ll update my twitter account!

Anyways, it’s my goal to use this much more and to add a lot of different content to it.  I’ll post devotionals that I do, strange things that I’ve encountered, things that happen in my personal life, the world, etc.  I changed up the theme recently to be a little more visually attracting.  I might start working on my own theme thats more custom to me, chris ayres.  But for now I really like the strange green image above.  It’s very appealing.

Peace out, I’m going to Church!

Comment Moderation FTW!

15 June 2008

Every now and then I log in to find 7-8 spam comments waiting for moderation.  Most of them are just ridiculous advertisements for penis enlargement and stuff like that.  If it wasn’t for my moderation box being checked, you all would see it and I’d never know!

Time for an Update

11 June 2008

I think that I’m ready for an update to the look of my website.  Keep an eye open for some changes!

It’s my Birthday!

11 June 2008

Or it was rather, yesterday.  I turned 23.  I did something that I’ve never done before for my birthday.  I didn’t tell anyone about it, I didn’t throw myself a big party, I didn’t talk about it weeks before hand…  I pretty much ignored it and down played it.  I even spent about 7 hours with the same person and didn’t once mention it, despite the phone calls to wish me a happy birthday.

Anyways, it was a great day.  Michelle and I had a good time together, had some dinner at Carrabbas, and a  good relaxing evening.

Feels good to be 23.  It’s my last year in the young 20′s.  Thanks to everyone who called and texted me.  It’s good to be loved!

New Motorcycle

11 June 2008

As most of you know, the rising cost of fuel has affected most parts of your daily life. You see the cost of food rising, household goods, etc., rising higher and higher. Coupled with the extravagant lifestyles and the American’s love for the gas guzzling SUV’s, the rise doesn’t seem to end.

One of the things that you will start to see more and more of on the road are smaller more fuel efficient vehicles and motorcycles. I started looking into motorcycles for two reasons: 1) My truck broke down and is way too expensive to fix, 2) at the time I was driving 60 miles round trip to work each day. Motorcycles can get around 50-60 mpg if you get the right ones, and still have the power to move at interstate speeds.

The difference between a Sport Bike and a Cruiser as far as gas mileage goes is nominal, so the deciding factor then became safety and comfort. After seeing what happened to Jeremy’s leg after laying his bike down at 35mph and the many stories you hear of people being killed after crashing their bikes at 100+ mph on the interstate, I decided that I’m going to get a cruiser. Far fewer accidents occur on a cruiser than do on a ‘crotch rocket’. Enter the Yahama V-Star 650cc.

Yes it’s purple, but it’s a sweet bike.  It has after market Cobra pipes on them, so it’s nice and loud and you can hear me coming.  Being heard and being seen is a key element to safety.  I’m becoming quite comfortable on the bike and when I feel comfortable enough, I’ll put Michelle on the back.  Many people are understandably worried about us owning a bike and riding it together.  I wouldn’t put Michelle on it until we both felt I was comfortable enough to handle a second rider.

I hope that this was a wise financial decision on our part and that over the near future we’ll see less money being shelled out for gasoline and more money paying off debt.

A little tip for choosing a bike, it doesn’t have to be the newest one.  I have a 2002, 6 years old now, and it has low mileage and still in great shape.

Flea Meds + Eye = Ouch

9 June 2008

The flea meds we ordered from Australia came in today.  I don’t know why it came from Australia but it was like $10 cheaper than PetMeds.com.  It’s either going to kill the fleas in like 10 seconds, or kill the cats.  Who knows.  All I know is that after we put it on Peives neck, he shook his head and a drop of it flew into my EYE!  The odds of that are out of this freaking world but it happened and it burned like our apartment.  If another flea ever bites me, I’m going to be pissed.
